A la fecha, al menos 166 personas han perdido la vida a consecuencia de este fen\u00f3meno, lo que lo convierte en el segundo hurac\u00e1n m\u00e1s letal en golpear el territorio continental del pa\u00eds en los \u00faltimos 50 a\u00f1os. Solo el devastador hurac\u00e1n Katrina, que en 2005 cobr\u00f3 la vida de m\u00e1s de 1.800 personas, ha superado este tr\u00e1gico saldo.<\/p>\n<p>Las cifras oficiales revelan que Carolina del Norte ha sido el estado m\u00e1s afectado, con 77 muertes confirmadas. Otros estados como Carolina del Sur, Georgia, Florida, Tennessee y Virginia tambi\u00e9n han sufrido p\u00e9rdidas humanas, con un saldo que sigue conmocionando a la naci\u00f3n.<\/p>\n<p>Con 36 muertes en Carolina del Sur, 25 en Georgia, 17 en Florida, 9 en Tennessee y 2 en Virginia, Helene ha dejado una huella indeleble en la regi\u00f3n sureste del pa\u00eds, recordando la creciente vulnerabilidad de las zonas costeras ante fen\u00f3menos meteorol\u00f3gicos extremos.<\/p>\n<p>Este conteo no incluye a Puerto Rico, donde el hurac\u00e1n Mar\u00eda, en 2017, caus\u00f3 la muerte de casi 3.000 personas, destacando la disparidad de afectaciones entre el territorio continental y las islas.<\/p>\n<p>A pesar de los avances en predicci\u00f3n meteorol\u00f3gica y las acciones de prevenci\u00f3n, Helene super\u00f3 el r\u00e9cord establecido por el hurac\u00e1n Ian en 2022, que dej\u00f3 150 fallecidos.
