El estudio reciente indica que la disminuci\u00f3n de las aguas subterr\u00e1neas se ha incrementado en muchos lugares desde el a\u00f1o 2000, pero tambi\u00e9n se\u00f1ala que es posible revertir estas p\u00e9rdidas con una gesti\u00f3n h\u00eddrica m\u00e1s eficiente.<\/p>\n<h5>An\u00e1lisis de los datos<\/h5>\n<p>Este es el primer intento de sintetizar datos de aguas subterr\u00e1neas a nivel mundial obtenidos in situ, en contraposici\u00f3n a los evaluados por sat\u00e9lite. Investigaciones previas han medido la magnitud de la p\u00e9rdida global de agua subterr\u00e1nea analizando datos recabados por un par de sat\u00e9lites de la NASA llamados GRACE. Aunque los sat\u00e9lites pueden monitorear el planeta entero, captar algunos detalles de la p\u00e9rdida y recuperaci\u00f3n de agua en acu\u00edferos regionales puede ser complicado desde el espacio, explican los cient\u00edficos.<\/p>\n<p>Scott Jasechko, hidr\u00f3logo de la Universidad de California en Santa B\u00e1rbara, junto con su equipo, evalu\u00f3 las variaciones en el agua subterr\u00e1nea de los acu\u00edferos. Para ello, examinaron datos de niveles de agua recogidos desde 1980 en aproximadamente 170,000 pozos de monitoreo a nivel mundial. Estos pozos proporcionan una perspectiva sobre la condici\u00f3n de cerca de 1,700 de los mayores sistemas acu\u00edferos del planeta.<\/p>\n<p>Mediante el an\u00e1lisis de esta informaci\u00f3n, el grupo de investigadores determin\u00f3 las \u00e1reas donde la disminuci\u00f3n del agua subterr\u00e1nea se intensifica. Observaron que en el 12% de los acu\u00edferos analizados, el agua disminuye m\u00e1s de medio metro anualmente. Adem\u00e1s, en el 36% de los acu\u00edferos, se registra una baja de una d\u00e9cima de metro cada a\u00f1o. Las reducciones m\u00e1s significativas se encontraron en zonas extremadamente secas del mundo, incluyendo el centro de Chile, Ir\u00e1n y el oeste de Estados Unidos.<\/p>\n<h5>Se\u00f1ales alentadoras<\/h5>\n<p>Los investigadores comunican que en ciertas zonas, los niveles de agua subterr\u00e1nea han empezado a incrementarse en las \u00faltimas dos d\u00e9cadas, a pesar de haber disminuido al finalizar el siglo XX. Probablemente, estos aumentos resultan de alteraciones en la administraci\u00f3n del agua a nivel regional. Por ejemplo, en la cuenca tailandesa de Bangkok, se han revertido las merma de agua subterr\u00e1nea de un acu\u00edfero gracias a pol\u00edticas regulatorias que comprenden la imposici\u00f3n de tarifas por el bombeo de agua subterr\u00e1nea y la autorizaci\u00f3n de pozos. Por otro lado, la cuenca de Abbas-e Sharghi en Ir\u00e1n est\u00e1 experimentando una recuperaci\u00f3n debido a la redirecci\u00f3n del agua hacia la cuenca desde una importante presa ubicada al oeste del pa\u00eds.<\/p>\n<p>El equipo indica que estas recuperaciones demuestran que \u00ablas disminuciones de agua subterr\u00e1nea a largo plazo no son un fen\u00f3meno universal ni
